C.J. Mosley was the silver lining in the Jets season opening loss to the Bills. The Jets' linebacker recorded a pick-six and fumble recovery in his debut.

Mosley signed a vast five-year, $85 million deal with the Jets during the off season.

He proved to be worth the investment, intercepting Josh Allen's pass on the Bills' second possession. Allen's pass attempt deflected off Cole Beasley, falling right into Mosley's hands. Mosley returned the pass 17 yards for the Jets' first points of the 2019 season.

He also recovered Allen's fumble after the quarterback was unable to handle the snap from the new Bills center Mitch Morse. It marks Mosley's seventh career fumble recovery.

Mosley exited Sunday’s game with a groin injury and did not return. You could see the void left by his departure as the Bills manufactured an 85-yard touchdown drive in his absence, keeping them alive in the contest. The strong showing in Mosley’s premiere is an indicator of how pivotal he is to the Jets defense.

In a game where the offense struggled to find the end zone, the Jets' defense gave the team every opportunity to further its lead with C.J. Mosley leading the charge.

In order for the Jets to be able to accrue wins this season, Mosley will have to be available since he is clearly the catalyst of this defense.
